ROLE WE PLAY
A short experimental film discussing the experience of being black in the film industry and society.
This film intrigued me as it offered a unique approach to talking about this subject. Working using poetry-like monologuing, while wrapped in an experimental lens, offers a great canvas for editing.

The message needed to be clear however. Thankfully the visual strategy was linear and clean, allowing focus to never escape the words spoken. Cutting all these aspects together was quite melodical and harmonious.

DOGEATER
A short film exploring the female Asian experience and prejudice in the UK, post Covid-19.
As the editor I found that I needed to think about this idea in a significant amount of depth, in both pre- and post-production. It was imperative I balance the Poetic mode, and blend it with the Expository mode, thus not making the message of the film seem miscommunicated or misguided.
We want to educate people on this very real struggle within our turbulent country. Here is a fragment of people who have experienced these things, hear them, and listen to them. That is our message.

UNKNOWN LANGUAGE
A narrative film exploring the complexities of a father-son relationship following a divorce, involving Punjabi culture.
Unknown Language tells the narrative of a father son relationship, tormented by a divorce that leaves the two distanced more than ever, from one another. This film dives into the intricacies of an under-represented perspective, where we can see the beauty of a father and son rekindle their love, through predominantly visual storytelling.
The film provides a twist on the code and conventions of this topic of film by exploring it through the lens of a Punjabi experience.

TRANSCENDENT
Rohan, following, the loss of his mother must try and navigate a tricky relationship with his older brother Jay,
Turning to the supernatural.
This film explored themes that I had dabbled in before. However in that regard it also offered a new chance to enhance more of what I had tried and knew in terms of editing.

The exploration of transferring from one plane to another was an exciting concept, that was quite eyeopening for me, when trying more experimental and stylistic editing techniques.

WALKING WITH THE WOUNDED
A commercial for Walking with the Wounded, filmed on 16mm.
This commercial was made using an Arriflex 16mm SR 3.
This commercial was interesting to make, being given developed film that had been converted digitally. I had never worked with film based footage before and it offered a new and interesting variable when cutting together this piece.
Having to cut a short moment together within 30 seconds was challenging but also educational.

THE COUSIN OF DEATH
A short film with elements of absurdist humour. Justin, an isolated insomniac, is trying his best to get to sleep the night while his tired mind starts playing tricks on him, as he spills his soul to a late-night radio host and makes himself the target of a dastardly cartoon mole with a domination complex.
This film was very exciting for me to work on. The style and general hysteria that develops throughout the narrative allowed for more and more radical editing styles to be incorporated as the film progressed, creating a really fun and ideal situation for an editor.
Having this be my grad film, I couldn't be happier with the styles I got to experiment with, as well as with the final outcome.
